Accessibility

This site is built to be read with a keyboard, a screen reader, a phone, reduced motion, or a printer. WCAG 2.2 AA is the acceptance bar.

Testing and known limits

WCAG 2.2 AA is our design target, not a certification. This release has passed responsive layout checks and automated interaction checks. Testing on physical devices and with screen readers remains outstanding.

Report a barrier with the page, device, browser or assistive technology, and what you could not do. Email an accessibility issue.

How this site is built.

  • Keyboard firstEvery control works without a mouse, with a visible focus ring. A skip link jumps straight to the content.
  • Readable structureOne H1 per page, headings in order, landmarks for navigation and content, and link text that says where it goes.
  • Contrast and sizeText contrast of at least 4.5:1 in light and dark appearance. Buttons, menu links, the chapter bar and the footer's link lists are at least 44px tall. Every other target meets WCAG 2.2's 24px minimum, by its size or by the space around it; links inside a sentence follow the text.
  • Motion you controlAnimations, smooth scrolling, and page transitions respect your device's reduce-motion setting, and the Motion toggle in the footer turns them off here regardless.
  • Appearance you controlLight, dark, or follow your device, from the sun button in the header or the . key.
  • PrintablePrinting the home page gives a one-page summary of the suite; other pages print without menus, dialogs, or animation.

Shortcuts never fire while you are typing in a field, and none of them trap focus. Dialogs close with esc and return focus to where you were.

What it still gets wrong.

On wide screens the storytelling sections pin a picture while the text scrolls; on phones, small windows, and at high zoom the picture sits still above the text. Drawings are described in text. If something was still hard, that is a bug and we want to know.

Tell us what was hard. Email Carlo@carloorlando.com with the page, what you were trying to do, and the device or assistive technology you used.

Turn single-key shortcuts off if they interfere with your assistive technology; ⌘KCtrl K and esc keep working. There is one more door. It is harmless, and it respects every status on this site.
